The Best Way to Move This Summer

Did you know that the summer is the peak moving season? Why may you ask? Think about it. College students are weaving their way back to their hometowns. Parents find it easier to move on summer break. The weather is ideal for moving because the skies are generally clear. Overall, summer is the best time to move.

Book Your Movers in Advanced

The best practice is to book in advanced for summer moving, but even if you haven’t, you may still be able to fit in a slot with Capital Movers. Make sure you also pack throughout the month before your move. Don’t forget about our moving calendar to help plan out the last month of your move.

Schedule Your Utilities for Your Summer Move

Another challenge to prepare for is ensuring that your utilities are on in your new home. Check with your landlord (if you’re renting) or relator (if you’re owning property) what services you need for your new home. The general utilities are water, electric, internet, and gas.

With the heat slowly growing scorching in the late afternoons, beat the heat with the air conditioning turned on in your home. You can use ComparePower to review the best electricity rates in the Austin area. Some electric companies also offer gas services.

Make sure you research what water and internet companies service in your area. Your complex may have a water and internet company in mind for your home.

Start Your Summer Move Early

Not only is it cooler in the mornings, but you also need to get an early start on your day. Traffic is likely to be clearer as well in the early mornings. Aim to start your move around 8 a.m. or earlier, if possible.

Move your perishables and electronics first to avoid the heat. Since electronics perish quickly in the heat, they should be the last thing placed in your moving truck and the first thing placed in your new home.

Self-Care Is Key in Summer Moves

Now, what do we mean by self-care? We don’t expect you to apply cucumbers on your face while your movers work, but you should remain hydrated and apply sunscreen of an SPF of 30 or higher. Moving is stressful, but don’t forget to take care of what’s most important: you!

Make sure you have some water bottles for you and your movers. To beat the heat, dress in light clothing that’s easy to move around in. Moving isn’t a time to look your best but dress practically.

Moving requires a lot of heavy lifting and walking. The more comfortable you are, the smoother your move will go.
